Why is slipknot so angry
Fortunately, both brothers survived the potentially deadly battle, though the police did note that "neither individual was very cooperative" when the authorities eventually arrived. Neither Andrew nor Mick wanted to press charges in the aftermath, but Clive police did charge them with "disorderly conduct by fighting.
Many members of Slipknot have had rough patches in their lives, but few started as early and as hard as vocalist Corey Taylor. As such, the young Taylor developed a taste for narcotics. He particularly enjoyed cocaine and methamphetamine, to the point where they nearly killed him. One time, the teenage Taylor woke up in a trash can 12 miles from his home, with no shirt, no shoes, and blood on his face.
He eventually discovered that he had lost "a couple of days. Terrifying as the experience must have been, this particular dark cloud ultimately had a silver lining: During his long walk back home, young Taylor decided that he has to get out of that place.
Suffice to say, he followed through. Sometimes, the greatest tragedies in life happen not to you, but to your loved ones. As Consequence of Sound reports, Slipknot percussionist Shawn Crahan right experienced the most frightful thing that can happen to a father in , when his youngest daughter, year-old Gabrielle, unexpectedly died. According to TMZ , the cause of death was accidental drug overdose. Gabrielle Crahan's demise was particularly devastating because it seemed that her life was going pretty well.
Although she reportedly did have a history of drug use, she had posted a sobriety coin on Instagram just days before the incident, indicating that she was five months sober.
While undoubtedly devastated, Crahan handled this ultimate tragedy with the kind of poise and grace one wouldn't necessarily expect from a man who wears a clown mask and wreaks havoc for a living. Slipknot's first major lineup change since the death of Paul Gray came in December when, as Louder reports, the band ousted their longtime drummer, Joey Jordison. The whole situation was rather mysterious, as singer Corey Taylor said that the decision had been extremely painful.
So, since Jordison was clearly important to the group, why on earth did they "part ways" with the guy? The truth didn't emerge until , when Jordison revealed at Metal Hammer's Golden Gods awards ceremony via Louder that his departure was prompted by a medical condition. Jordison suffers from a form of multiple sclerosis called transverse myelitis, and this nasty nerve disease caused him to "lose" the use of his legs and rendered him unable to play his instrument for months.
He eventually managed to push back the disease and regain his drumming ability, but describes the experience as something he "wouldn't wish on [his] worst enemy. Thanks to a cruel twist of fate, at least three people have reportedly died at Slipknot's live shows over the years. As Blabbermouth tells us, a year-old student from Michigan died after going into cardiac arrest while attending a Slipknot concert in NME reports that in , a concert in the band's home state of Iowa saw a year-old concertgoer suddenly collapse and, oddly, also have a fatal cardiac arrest.
According to Loudwire , the most recent incident happened in , when a year-old fan was enjoying a mosh pit at Slipknot's Knotfest concert in Tinley Park, Illinois, but took a hit and "collapsed" outside the pit.
The fallen fan started having a seizure, and the venue's lack of organization meant that staff couldn't reach the man until 15 to 25 minutes later. At that point, CPR came too late, and he ultimately passed away. Tragically, this happened mere weeks after the band had expertly defused a potentially dangerous situation during another Knotfest show in San Bernardino, California. Canoe writes that singer Corey Taylor stopped the concert to allow medical staff to reach and treat injured fans.
In , Slipknot was going through a rough patch. As the Guardian tells us, the band had been forced to cancel several shows because drummer Joey Jordison broke his ankle, but something even worse loomed in the distant land of South Africa.
In the city of Krugersdorp, a year-old student rampaged through Nic Diederich Technical High School, waving a sword and slashing at people The student killed one person and injured another two, and people soon started pointing fingers at the band.
Now I got about 16 hours where I don't have to hear anyone else's fuckin' voice. It doesn't say 'Hate' in Japanese on my fuckin' forearm for no reason.
I'd rather be alone than be around a bunch of people that I don't care about, don't care about me or are fuckin' full of shit. I can sit home and play Xbox, play my guitar, beat off, sleep. What else do you need? He's like, "I gotta go.
My grandfather's dying. I gotta get there. Shit's going on. Didn't get there. Sid shows up. But we see he's hurting. He gets in [ the recording booth ]. They start the song. He starts singing. Next thing you know the song's done, he has a breakdown and that's " " [ the intro of Iowa]. That's all Sid.
Just gone. I come in the next day, Ross is weeping. Puts his arms around me. You're one of the few people that's gonna understand this. This is my favorite part of the record. It's the realest part of the record. GRAY Our record kept getting pushed back. We toured for months before the record even came out.
Finally the record comes out. Then suddenly everyone wanted to put it on the 'Knot, man. That was our smallest tour cycle. We did seven or eight months, then no more. It wasn't a good time for the country, but it wasn't a good time for us, either. We got banned at a lot of radio stations and MTV wouldn't touch us. So here we were with our finest work to date and nobody would give us the time of day.
We were working our asses off and we weren't getting paid shit. We were killing ourselves and going, "Where's the fucking money? Where's the fucking money? Nobody could tell us what the fuck was going on. We were all burned out and we were looking for a little sunshine. The sunshine from the first album was totally gone and it was a total eclipse for a very fucking long time. He's dead. But it was the old scenario you hear about with Ted Nugent or whoever.
We ended up being ripped off and not told the truth. But I don't think about that stuff anymore. I hope he's resting well and that he's in a better place. I hold no grudges against Steve. Every once in a while I think there may be a God that put a cyst on his brainstem and caused him to be a fuckin' zombie. The dude just stepped into our lives and tried to cause rifts between band members because, as long as you've got them occupied, you can be raping them and stealing from them and they're not noticing because they're too caught up in stupid shit to see a bigger picture.
We had to get the fuck away. And I realized I had been giving up too much power, too much control. So when we did Stone Sour, I did a lot of the production and arranging, which was good for my head, but it didn't fix the problem.
There were just all these question marks everywhere about the future of Slipknot because we were really having fun doing the Stone Sour stuff. GRAY I was pissed. I thought, Fuck, we should be working on Slipknot.
But now that I think about it, it was perfect because it gave Slipknot some time apart. We were sick of fuckin' looking at each other. It was a long, hard time for me, but it was definitely for the better for the band. During the downtime I played with [ stoner-rock band ] Unida and just jammed with friends.
I didn't do much of anything — a lot of drinking, some drugs. Heavy, heavy, heavy drugs. I was shooting speedballs every day and then pills. I was on everything, man.
In the beginning, I had my shit under control, but after a while, no. I became an addict. I didn't know if we were ever gonna get back together. Alternative Metal 2. Dance Pop 3. Emo 4. Dark Trap 5. Detroit Hip Hop. Earlier this year, Slipknot were also found to be the number one band to make you drive like a maniac. To really get your anger out, catch Slipknot on tour in the UK next year.
